Share a Coke with Me!

If I said I didn’t watch this campaign video more than 5 times, I’d be lying!

I’m not a Coca-Cola fan, well I’m not a soft drink fan in general, but I’m quite sure the guys over at CC would get to me purchase perhaps one or two cans of the beverage, just for the fun of seeing my name etched across the bottle.

Rebranded: Public Relations Gets a Name Change

In an article released on March 1st, the Public Relations Society of America’s CEO Gerard Corbett, announced that the “PR Defined” Campaign aimed at rebranding the 1982 definition of Public Relations, had finally reached a conclusion.

After “1,447 votes, hundreds of submissions, abundant commentary and nearly a year of research,” the organisation released what they term a “modern,” “simple and straightforward” definition. And it is exactly that!

PR Degrees: Why We Need Them!

When my interest in Public Relations first began to take fruit and I started reading around, researching and studying the art of Public Relations; one of the common expressions I always heard was, “You don’t need a PR degree to work in PR.” I always thought it quite odd, that for ANY job or profession – unless you’re a waitress, janitor, maid etc. – that the obvious consensus would to be academically qualified for your position.

“Down With PR?!”

So my mates and I were given the task of producing a viral video under the theme, “PR has a bad reputation, but society needs it!”

For our concept, we came up with the idea of depicting two worlds. One with PR (colourful, fun, energetic) and one without PR (black and white, boring), with the script explaining each of the scenes.

Peep the video at the jump to see what we came up with.

The BIGGER Picture: Diversity Comms.

Before today, I’ve never realised how critically important the job of Diversity Communications could be. Under the theme “Issues in PR”, we were quite fortunate to have Mavis Amankwah, Managing Director of Rich Visions come in and discuss this highly overlooked, yet pivotal, role and how it should be applied throughout any organisation with a goal of increasing awareness and sales.

PR: Who Really Wears The Pants?

Though PR is undeniably a field where women “wear the pants” due to their dominance, the profession – like most – still faces the overwhelming struggle of inferiority and inequality.

According to the 2011 CIPR’s Annual State of the PR Profession Survey, the industry is chiefly dominated by women nevertheless, the guys are the ones stacking up the dollars, “earning salaries in excess of £50,000” and holding largely Senior Management or Directorial positions (CIPR, 2011).

So what do women do?

We’ve been FEATURED!

Excuse my paranoia; but in this spam-filled online world we live in, I’m usually hazy about random posts, tags, emails, links etc. from anon. folk, and even friends. So yesterday when I was tweeted to about my post being listed as one of the Top Posts (February 2nd) on Social Strategist, Dave Gallant’s online paper, “Social Media Influencers,” it wasn’t uncommon for me to initially ignore it.
